Four Michigan Community Access Centers Win 10 National Awards.
The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) honored the winners of the 28th Annual Government Programming Awards (GPA) at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, FL on Thursday, September 19, 2013. Four of the Michigan Government (PEG) Access Stations received a total of 10 awards. Meridian Township won first, second and third place as well as honorable mention, City of Livonia won first and third place and honorable mention, City of Ann Arbor won two honorable mentions and Bloomfield Township won second place. Categories ranged from election coverage, live sports events, to use of social media.
Michigan Chapter President, Ron Beacom states, “Providing our communities with local coverage is what we do best, but winning national awards is icing on the cake! Congratulations to all the national award winners, but mostly our local Michigan stations.” Below are the Michigan winners from first place to honorable mention with categories listed.
First Place:
• Arts and Entertainment- “Artists: Michael McNamara” City of Livonia
• Visual Arts- “Beyond the Badge Opening Animation” Meridian Township
Second Place:
• Live Sports Event- “BACB Sports: Girls Basketball – Seaholm VS. Groves” Bloomfield Township
• Use of Social Media- “HOMTV Social Media” Meridian Township
Third Place:
• Election Coverage- “Ballot Meridian 2012 Township Trustee Debate” Meridian Township
• Event/Program Promotion – “Recycling PSA” City of Livonia
Honorable Mention:
• Bulletin Boards- “Livonia Television Information Screens” City of Livonia
• Magazine Format Series – “For Your Information (FYI)” City of Ann Arbor
• Public Affairs- “Special Feature #234 – Charrette Project” Meridian Township
• Seniors- “Senior Moments November 2012” City of Ann Arbor
